If you’re like me, you’re planning to stay home, stay safe, and stay cozy this Valentine’s Day!  But staying home doesn’t have to be boring – you can still have a real date night!  Whether your looking for romance or family fun, there are so many at-home activities that can keep you entertained and in love all weekend long.  So grab your sweetheart and check out some of my top picks for this Valentine’s Day!

For the Lovebirds:

Get Dressed Up and Order In:

Just because you’re staying in doesn’t mean your can’t get dressed to the nines!  Pull out those skirts and suits that have been collecting dust for almost a year to add some fun and flare to your night.  Pop a bottle of something special and use your imagination to turn the dining room into the romantic 5-star restaurant you’re missing.  Even the classiest restaurants are offering take-out or delivery options this year, and many are providing special Valentine’s pre-fixe menus!

Support Local! Some of my favorite spots (now offering take-out/delivery options) include: Park West Tavern, Pearl Restaurant, Domani, Finca, and 103 Prime!

Wine and Chocolate Tasting:

Let’s bring Napa Valley to us this year!  To set up your own taste test, start by picking up a few bottles of wine and a variety of chocolates.  Pour 2oz of each wine into separate glasses and place the unwrapped chocolates into individual cups (paper cupcake cups work well).  As you prepare, write the name of each wine or chocolate on an index card, then flip it over and write a number. Place the wine glass or chocolate cup on top.  Shuffle the glasses and paper cups so you can’t tell which is which – no peeking!

Now for the fun part – taste them!  Discuss which pairings go best together and rank your favorites.  If you’re a real connoisseur, see if you can name each wine and chocolate without looking!  Whoever can name the most wins a kiss!

Recreate Your First Date:

If you’ve been together for years, your relationship has probably changed and evolved quite a bit.  Bring back some the innocence and magic of the old days by recreating your first date!  See if you can remember what type of food you ate, what movie you saw, or even what you talked about!  Been together decades?  Make it extra fun by dressing with vintage style – big 80’s hair anyone?

For the Whole Family:

Virtual Paint Nite:

Bring out your creative side this Valentine’s Day!  Yaymaker Events is hosting virtual Paint Nites all weekend long, with step-by-step instruction from talented artists.  These classes are great for all experience levels, so don’t worry if this is your first dabble with a brush.  Add snacks and wine (and cola for the kids) for a fun and unique experience!

Game Night:

Whether it’s a classic like Monopoly, a strategic mission like Risk, or a murder mystery like Sherlock , board games are always a good time!  Pair with finger foods and easy to eat snacks for a whole night of family fun.  The kids may actually put down the electronic devices to join in on the friendly competition!

Breakfast for Dinner:

Things are bit switched up this year – so let’s go with the flow!  Pancakes, waffles, donuts, omelets, bacon – some of the most delicious foods are typically made in the morning when we are rushing around trying to get ready for the day.  This year Valentine’s Day is on a Sunday, which means it might be the perfect time to create a fun and elaborate breakfast menu – for dinner!  Add a little whipped cream and sprinkles to the waffles and you will get rave reviews from your harshest critics – the kids!
